Retired, kids grown up

Retired, kids grown up, lost a partner? It can happen, but don’t lose heart and miss out on enjoying the years ahead of you. Why not build a new life by joining in new activities and making new friends amongst your locals?
Try sport by taking up badminton, or pickleball, which are suitable for anyone wanting to begin with light activity, or limited skills. Both are played indoors so that you can play all year round. Bowls is even less demanding, with tea and biscuits available in the pavilion after your game.
Your local college will offer a range of courses in languages, computers, or even pottery for those willing to get involved. You may also have a U3A organisation in your area which provides activities such as Yoga, or Pilates classes to stimulate body and mind. Try joining a Book Club with regular meetings with other members to discuss the book you have all just read and select your next title.
One of my choices was painting with watercolours and after joining a class to learn how to mix colours, paint clouds and distant landscapes, I joined a group painting outdoors in Scotland. Together we set up our easels and painted castles, harbours and pine forest glades. Naturally it rained, but we all carried covers to protect our masterpieces.
After enjoying all the new activities and new friendships which had brought fun and excitement into my own life, my next choice was to include my experiences in a novel so that others might follow the same path in rebuilding their lives.
Beginning with Senior Singles on how it all began, a sequel, Senior Pleasures is now available
to describe the fun and friendships which have made my life so much more enjoyable.
